My Style

My DiSC style is iD, influence out front with dominance close behind it. The dot on my Everything DiSC Workplace profile sits near the edge of the circle rather than the center, a strong inclination, not a mild one.

The short version. I'm the rah-rah cheerleader. My shading touches Action, Enthusiasm, and Results: I'm goal-oriented, I want the freedom to set my own course, and I'm drawn to the assignment that lets me swing big. I'm extremely expressive, my enthusiasm is contagious on purpose, and I persuade by getting people to want the thing rather than ordering them into it, the same instinct that got a chemistry company's investors to fund a molecule they couldn't fully explain, and got a CEO to say yes to a new department over dinner instead of a slide deck. I want to be heard, I like being recognized for what I bring, and I hand that same recognition back generously, because I know exactly how much it matters when someone gives it to me.

Where it isn't the whole story. The generic version of this style comes with a warning label: strong need for variety, quick to kick a project off, quicker to lose interest once the excitement wears off, better at starting things than finishing them. That's a fair caution for a lot of people who share this style, and I'd rather name it than pretend the report doesn't say it. But it doesn't actually describe how I've operated on the work that mattered most: I led RJG's digital transformation work through execution, not just the kickoff, and the Product department I proposed over a single dinner conversation is one I built and ran for a year and a half, not a launch I handed off and walked away from. Where I'll agree with the report is on routine, unglamorous maintenance work with no next milestone in sight; that's genuinely where I have to work harder to stay engaged. But ownership of something that matters isn't where this style falls short for me, and an assessment is a pattern, not a determination of what I'm capable of finishing.

The same report also notes that under real pressure, my instinct is to stay positive and let unpleasant things go for as long as I can, and that when I finally do react, I react out loud rather than going quiet. If you're ever the one disagreeing with me, that's useful to know: bring me the whole picture up front, and you'll get a direct conversation, not a slow burn.
